Introducing the Villages of Lyons

Honor Construction and Compass Insurance Agency announces the groundbreaking of a multi-use development project in the village of Lyons, Michigan on October 1, 2021. The phased construction project will include seven affordable market rate apartments. A new office for Compass Insurance will occupy the former Riverbank Treasure unit. The final project has a completion date of February 1, 2022.

"Small towns like Lyons have seen a disinvestment for decades," says Jack Hodeman, owner of Compass Insurance. "As someone raised in the small town of Caledonia, I appreciate the sense of community small towns have and would like to see those towns flourish. I’m hoping that this may inspire other business owners to bring more jobs and businesses back to the village of Lyons."

Originally built in 1876 as the Jr Dougherty Bank in Lyons and often referred to as the "old bank building," the space housed a variety of banks throughout the years, with Independent Bank vacating the building in 2012. After remaining empty for many years, Riverbank Treasures and the Lyons Historical Society moved in and began selling antiques.

The four apartments on the second floor of the building, not renovated since the 1960s, will become five 1-bedroom units, feature high efficiency heat/central air, LED energy efficient lighting, high efficiency appliances and in unit washer/dryer. Lyons Township also purchased a building on the next block, which will be renovated into two additional apartments. The post office will remain a tenant.
